Embracing Spirituality through Meditation

Need for embracing Spirituality through Meditation.
A technique to relax and regulate your mind

Thanks to the IT industry where we are in, all of us are materially well off compared to our cousins working in other industries. In this industry we witness a constant rise in our business targets which in turn leads to pay hikes and thereby go through periods of boom as well as slowdown. We continue to live in this way and satiate our material needs or aspirations without ever realizing that there is something internal to us which also needs our care and attention. Since the time spend on accomplishing something external to us is immediately rewarding and therefore tempting, what is internal to us is always ignored and it takes a back seat.

But as years go on, sooner or later some problems start creeping into our life and and make us realize the importance and significance of something that is internal to us. It is during these times, one normally embraces a spiritual path as it makes the purpose of one?s life a holistic or complete.

The question that can then be asked is: What is meditation for? And why should one take up a spiritual life? Through meditation, one can control his outgoing tendencies and learn to look inward by closing his eyes. The spiritual life is considered to be the natural course of evolution in human life.

A child undergoes the schooling system without initially liking it. In fact it is forcefully put in a school and it might wonder as to "why on earth should I go to school when I can comfortably stay at home enjoying the enormous love and care from parents, grandparents. But it is a social norm to go through the schooling system even though one might not be able to appreciate its benefits immediately. Later on in life we understand the value of the school.

Similarly, now that we are all adults, quite learned and intellectually developed and of course independent, we will definitely ask ourselves to "why should I embrace a spiritual path when everything around me is good, and I am good - I don't harm anyone and am good to everyone". The answer to this question is by embracing a spiritual path; one?s life becomes balanced or complete, just as the child that has to undergo the schooling system. The pursuit of spiritual life becomes necessary as it can enrich the normal worldly life without anyway affecting it in an adverse way.

In this regard, Shri Ram Chandra Mission (www.srcm.org), a registered non-profit organization is committed to the spiritual welfare of individuals through the practice Sahaj Marg meditation which is offered free of cost. The details about the Sahaj Marg system of meditation can be found in sahajmarg.org.

Q1. Say I'm a PL today, and aspire to become a PM say 3 yrs from now and so on and so forth, . Will my career plan get affected or will I become less ambitious because of my pursuing the spiritual path?
A pursuit of spiritual path moderates your career ambitions and helps to avoid any obsessive destructive career aspirations which can spell disaster in the long run. The pursuit of spiritual path helps you to manage your internal conflicts and focus your attention.

Q2. Well I'm convinced that meditation is good, why is it attached to spirituality?
There are several types of meditation practices. Some of them lead to non-spiritual goals as well. Sahaj Marg teaches a system of meditation that promotes spiritual growth in a person.

Q3. Do I get detached from worldly affairs after I take up the spiritual practice?
Not really. The concept of attachment and detachment is based on our perception of reality and more and more one gets to know the reality, detachement comes naturally and does not give rise to the feeling of giving-up or staying away from it. For instance, as an adult, one doesn?t cry for the toy car towards which he\she was so attached when he\she was a kid.

Q4. What is my time commitment to do the practice.
Approximately, 90 minutes a day. 30-45 minutes for morning meditation, 30 minutes for evening Cleaning and 10 minutes for night bed-time prayer.

Q5. Say I don't believe in God, Can I still practice this system?
The speed of light is the same regardless of who does the experiment, provided the experimenter does it correctly and with an unbiased attitude. Therefore whoever practices the system as prescribed will get the benefit. Sahaj Marg system says: "Do and feel."

Q6. What is the impact of meditation on my physical system?
The practice of meditation makes a person become efficient in his work as most of the time, the reason for stress is because of conflict and lack of clarity of understanding of the end objective. This has obvious physical side-benefits.

Q7. I was feeling different at different point of time in my life. Will I not evolve automatically as I grow older?
It is medically known that the our brain grows and reaches full capacity within the first few years of life. Similarly our body too grows and remains as it is after 20yrs or so. Similarly intellectual growth too seems to stagnate after some time. Spiritual growth alone is something that can happen incessantly provided we put our effort into it.
